Why Did Jermaine Burton Transfer to Alabama?
The Former Georgia Wide Receiver Explains His Decision
A Fresh Start in Tuscaloosa
Following Georgia's triumph in the national championship game in January, wide receiver Jermaine Burton made the surprising decision to transfer to Alabama. Speaking to reporters in August 2022, Burton explained that a fresh start in Tuscaloosa was a primary factor in his choice.
"I felt like I needed a new environment," Burton said. "I loved my time at Georgia, but I felt like I needed to make a change for myself." Burton added that he was excited about the opportunity to play for Alabama's renowned football program and head coach Nick Saban.
Seeking a Larger Role
Despite being Georgia's second-leading receiver in 2021, Burton expressed a desire for a larger role in an offense. He believed that Alabama offered him that opportunity, as the Crimson Tide has a history of developing wide receivers into NFL stars.
"I think I can be a big part of Alabama's offense," Burton said. "I'm confident in my abilities, and I'm looking forward to showcasing them in Tuscaloosa." Burton indicated that he hopes to contribute to Alabama's success right away and is eager to prove himself as one of the top receivers in the country.
