Todd and Julie Chrisley's Fraud Sentences Overturned
Appeals Court Rules in Favor of Reality TV Couple
Pair Scheduled for Release from Prison
Reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, who were sentenced to prison in 2022 for bank fraud and tax evasion, have had their sentences overturned by federal appeals judges.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons online inmate search system, Todd Chrisley will now leave the Federal Prison Camp at Pensacola, while Julie Chrisley, who was initially sentenced to seven years in prison, is scheduled to be released from the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Chrisleys have been incarcerated for more than a year, and their appeal hearing is scheduled for May 15.
The couple was convicted in June 2022 on multiple charges related to their financial dealings. They were accused of obtaining millions of dollars in fraudulent loans and evading taxes.
The appeals court ruled that the district court had erred in its instructions to the jury, and that the prosecution had failed to prove that the Chrisleys had intended to defraud the banks.
The Chrisleys' attorney, Bruce Morris, said in a statement that he was "pleased" with the court's decision and that he looked forward to "vindicating" his clients at the appeal hearing.
