Canada primed for role of giant-killers in Copa semis clash with Argentina
Defending champions sent warning signs despite group-stage win
Alvarez and Messi on target as Canada bow out
Canada will take on Argentina in the semi-finals of the Copa America on Tuesday, looking to pull off a major upset and reach the final of the competition.
The Canadians finished second in their group behind Argentina, but they impressed in their group-stage matches, beating Mexico and drawing with Uruguay.
Argentina, meanwhile, are the defending champions and one of the favourites to win the tournament again this year. They have a wealth of experience and quality in their squad, including Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Angel Di Maria.
The two teams met in the opening game of the tournament, with Argentina winning 2-0. However, Canada were unlucky not to get something from the game, and they will be confident of causing an upset in the semi-final.
Canada coach John Herdman said his team are relishing the challenge of facing Argentina.
"We know it's going to be a tough game, but we're excited about it," Herdman said.
"We've shown in this tournament that we can compete with the best teams in the world, and we're going into this game with a lot of confidence."
