Colin Farrell to Star in HBO Max's 'The Penguin' Series
The Batman spin-off will follow the iconic villain's rise to power in Gotham City.
Farrell will reprise his role from the 2022 film.
Colin Farrell is set to star in HBO Max's upcoming series "The Penguin," a spin-off of Matt Reeves' "The Batman" film. Farrell will reprise his role as Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, a ruthless crime boss who operates in Gotham City.
The series will follow the Penguin's rise to power in the wake of the events of "The Batman," which saw him emerge as a major player in the city's criminal underworld. It will explore his complex relationship with Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), a powerful mob boss who was killed by Batman in the film.
Lauren LeFranc, who previously worked on "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Impulse," will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Reeves will also executive produce alongside Dylan Clark, who produced "The Batman."
"The Penguin" is one of several spin-off series in development at HBO Max based on characters from "The Batman." Other projects include a series about the Gotham City Police Department and a show about Arkham Asylum.
The series is expected to premiere in 2024.
