Breaking News: Two Major Earthquakes Shake Japan
Magnitude 7.3 and 6.1 Tremors Cause Widespread Damage
At least ten people have been killed and over 1,000 injured in a series of powerful earthquakes that have struck Japan's northeastern coast.
The first quake, with a magnitude of 7.3, struck at 5:59 a.m. local time on Saturday, March 11. The epicenter was located about 150 miles northeast of Tokyo, in the Pacific Ocean. The second quake, with a magnitude of 6.1, occurred about an hour later, with its epicenter about 30 miles southwest of the first quake.
Both quakes were felt strongly in Tokyo, where buildings shook violently and power outages were reported. The tremors also triggered landslides and caused damage to roads and bridges. In the city of Ishinomaki, a large tsunami wave washed over the seawall and flooded the city center.
Rescue workers are currently searching for survivors in the affected areas. The Japanese government has deployed thousands of troops to assist with the relief effort. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but it is clear that the quakes have caused significant loss of life and property.
