Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome Restored and Re-released in 4K

Post-Apocalyptic Classic Gets High-Definition Treatment

WB Releases Trailer for Restored Cut

Warner Bros. has announced the upcoming release of a restored 4K version of the 1985 post-apocalyptic classic Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Directed by George Miller and George Ogilvie, the film stars Mel Gibson as the titular Max Rockatansky and Tina Turner as Aunty Entity. The 4K restoration was overseen by Miller, who also provided commentary for the new release.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is the third installment in the Mad Max franchise and is set in a post-nuclear wasteland where resources are scarce and violence is rampant. The film follows Max as he is captured by a group of raiders and taken to Bartertown, a trading town ruled by the tyrannical Aunty Entity. Max is forced to fight for his survival in the Thunderdome, a gladiatorial arena where the strongest warriors compete for food and water.

The 4K restoration of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome features enhanced picture and sound quality, as well as a number of bonus features, including a new featurette on the making of the film and a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration process. The new release will be available on Blu-ray, DVD, and streaming platforms in early 2023.
